Independence and Katrina

Michael figured out how to tie his shoes yesterday. He's been tying knots forever, so he could start and finish the double knot, but the bow itself was a real challenge. Finally, yesterday, he tied one, but was stymied on the other, but then last night he tied both shoes twice each. This morning, he dressed himself from head to toe completely by himself for the first time (with sneakers, anyway--the Tevas are old hat). I did have to step in and tell him that he could not wear bright orange shorts with a bright orange shirt, but other than that, his wardrobe was totally independent.

Well, Katrina is having a big impact on our lives, which you probably wouldn't expect from a storm which may or may not make it to Category 1 status. I am half expecting that the public schools will be closed, but have no official word on that yet. Andy has a big weekend scheduled--youth leader dinner and retreat Friday night, Tooby Dooby day and a Parent Seminar on Saturday. Tooby Dooby day is being reincarnated because it is obviously not a day to spend on the water or at the beach (both already questionable anyway because of some algae bloom in the river and red tide in the Gulf). If the weather is truly bad, it will affect turnout anyway and this Parent Seminar should really be something special. So that is what Katrina is doing to us so far!
