We spent a great weekend out at Joshua Tree National Park this past week, going with our neighbors, the Guthries, and Matt, another friend here at Fuller. Believe it or not, Matt agreed to come with us knowing that adults would still be outnumbered on this trip! The Guthries have the same number of children as we do, approximately the same ages. The kids did amazingly well on this trip, hiking and clambering on the rocks nonstop. Even Caroline was able to keep up with the big kids, putting about ten miles on her shoes. Everyone went to bed early the night we got home. We camped at Jumbo Rocks for two nights and spent most of Saturday hiking and playing in the immediate vicinity; on our way our on Sunday, we hiked a "moderately strenuous" 1.5 miles to the peak of Ryan Mountain (it may have been longer). There is certainly a lot more to see out at this park! I won't say there is a lot of variety in the vegetation, but there certainly is a lot of variety in the rocks.
